Founded in 2006, Fe y Justicia Worker Center’s mission as a safe space for low-wage workers to learn about their workplace rights and to organize to improve working conditions on the job. We build the collective power of low-wage workers in Houston in order to ensure a community in which all work is respected and all workers have a right to a healthy and sustainable job. FJWC provides volunteer and internship opportunities for the benefit of participants in order that they might gain skills, experience, and training.
Human rights are basic rights. One of those rights is to have access and be engaged in occupation. The word "occupation" not only encompasses work but also relates to our "role" in society; in how we occupy our time and how that fills us with meaning and purpose. If what we do as our occupation is not respected and valued, our well-being and purpose in life is negatively affected.
